Nadege Fleurimond is an entrepreneur who owns and operates her own catering company and can now add author to the list of her many accomplishments. Her new book, A Taste of Life, is a culinary memoir that demonstrates how life and food are a perfect pairing for everyone. Nadege debuted her book at her book signing on December 21, 2009 at the chic Bubble lounge, located in downtown Manhattan.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the lovely smells of food and the enticing sound of live music, provided by up and comer Keesha Mishawn. The jazzed up soul tunes were a perfect back drop to the inviting ambiance of the lounge. While inside, I saw Nadege working the room like the empowered woman that she is.
Nadege begins the book signing by explaining how it took her about two months to complete the project. The book was inspired by being a Haitian woman and the special qualities this gave her pertaining to life and cooking. Nadege, a self taught cook, attended Columbia University, where she majored in Political Science. She started catering small events for the organizations on campus and her love grew from there. It became more and more clear to me that Nadege wasn’t just a cook; she's a business woman.
A Taste of Life conveniently includes sections for new cooks, and to my delight, recipes just for the microwave! In addition, Nadege gives cooking classes. One tip, she gives for new cooks is to start small with things like sandwiches, patties, etc. Lastly, when asked what her most intimate dish is, Nadege answered the question with a passage from her book about a man named Michael. But you’ll have to buy the book to get the juicy details!
Overall, the book signing was a fulfilling experience. Go to your local bookstore to get A Taste of Life by Nadege Fleurimond.
